ABOUT:
64 BITS OF SUNLIGHT
64 Bits of Sunlight is a new generative release by acclaimed artist Tyler Hobbs. The algorithm is constructed in a non-deterministic way so that every time it is run, a different image is produced. Within the algorithm, choices are made to decide the compositional structure, color palette, textures, and other elements. As a result, there are a wide range of potential images that can be constructed.
The algorithm is crafted by hand using a general-purpose programming language. It does not involve AI or data visualization. It is simply designed to explore a particular aesthetic space of possibilities, using chance decisions to arrive at unexpected outcomes.
The Limited Edition series comprises 400 entirely unique outputs, with each print showcasing a one-of-a-kind creation generated by the algorithm, resulting in a collection of 400 distinct, hand-signed and numbered prints.

TYLER HOBBS
Tyler Hobbs is an Austin-based visual artist who works primarily with algorithms, plotters, and paint to create works that explore the relationship between computational aesthetics and the natural world. His art has been exhibited internationally, including solo shows at Unit in London and Pace Gallery in New York City, and is highly sought after by collectors, with pieces featured in auctions by Christie’s, Phillips, and Sotheby’s. His work is also part of the permanent collections at LACMA, SFMOMA, and the Museum of Art+Light.
